Kathy Authenreith, Librarian

Hi, I am Kathy Authenreith, the St. Susanna “Wiberry Wady”, as one adorable preschooler called me. This is my 15th year here (had to take my socks and shoes off to count that high!). I was a kindergarten aide my first 5 years at St. Susanna. I was awarded the Plainfield Optimists Support Person of the Year in 2009 & 2015.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, having attended Catholic grade school and high school. I have also lived in Columbus, OH and Knoxville, TN. I graduated from Butler University after attending night school for several years. I have worked in manufacturing, customer service, medicine, and now education! We have lived in Plainfield for over 20 years.
I have two adult sons (who attended St. Sue) and my husband of 29 years, Dave, can frequently be seen around here as part of Tuesday Night Guys and the Tech Committee.
Thanks to the support of the administration and the work of many parents, the St. Susanna Library is a thriving, living space – literally! Last year, we had 18,325 circulations – that averages 56 circulations for each student! Besides 18,115 books, 18 Nooks, several Playaway titles, and 10 laptops, we also have one chinchilla, three red eared slider turtles, and two fire bellied toads. You may have heard about Moe, the chinchilla. He is quite the celebrity here at St. Sue. Please stop in and meet our “reading rodent”.
It goes without saying, but I love to read! Reading literally impacts everything we do, and how well we do it. I strive to match a book with a child, and help them experience the joy of a really good book – for them. With so many options available today, it’s great when a kid can lose themselves in a book. Reading comes in all forms: signs, newspapers, magazines, electronic devices, menus, directions, cereal boxes, not to mention books.
