Hello! My name is Agnes Magnaye. I am excited to begin my 17th year here at Saint Susanna as the middle school music teacher and as director of music for our parish. For 15 years, I taught K-8 music, choir and handbell. For the last 2 years, I have taught middle school music, choir and handbell.
My music teaching career started at Yamaha School of Music after I placed first and was given the Grand Prix award for Regional organ competition. I was 16 years old. I taught piano and organ to younger kids, kids my age and a few adults. ( I remember being very worried when I found out that one of my students was a bank manager, but began to relax when I discovered that she was more scared than I was…especially when I told her she has to clip her nails.) At the request of my mother, I continued my music studies in college at University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music in Manila, Philippines. I took piano performance. I love playing the piano and would play daily for hours until I discovered my other love…..classroom music. I then studied music education and got my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. I taught for 10 years at Chiang Kai Shek College and Philippine Academy of Sakya in Manila before I came to Saint Susanna.
I find teaching as a very rewarding job. My daily experiences with my students all these years and my students’ (former and present) music accomplishments give me joy and pride! I owe my love for music to my mom, my first music teacher and all the music teachers that followed after her. Thank you!
