Hi, I am Lavona Mayo and this is my 4th year of teaching computer skills at Saint Susanna School. I am very excited about this coming year and I am looking forward to seeing all of our students again. One of my favorite things about being a special area teacher is being able to teach and spend time with students over the years and watching them grow, learn and change over time.
I graduated from IU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a computer endorsement. I was one of their first educators at IU to graduate with a computer endorsement. I have had a variety of teaching experiences all of which included teaching computer in one way or another. I taught 3 years at Maple and White Oak Elementary schools in Avon as a computer teacher and a teacher in a job share for 3rd grade gifted and talented. I taught computer classes for 2 years at St Michaels Catholic School. For 2 years I taught 5th grade and 5th/6th grade computer classes at Westside Christian Schools. Then I spent 10 years at General Motors Bus and Truck plant in Indianapolis teaching employees a variety of computer and educational skills. My last teaching position was at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School on Indy’s north side where I taught Kindergarten-8th grade computer classes for 7 years.
My family and I have lived in Hendricks County for the last 31 years. My husband and I have lived in Plainfield for the last 13 years having moved from Avon where we raised our 3 sons, each graduating from Avon Schools. We were both formally from Putnam County. We will be celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary this coming April. We are blessed to have 3 grown sons, daughter-in-laws, and 4 active fun grandsons and a beautiful granddaughter. They all live close by and we get to visit and enjoy time with them often.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and friends. My hobbies include: traveling, cruising, camping, reading, listening to music, watching movies, bird watching and using computers/technology. I love sunsets, hot tubs, campfires, rainbows, the beach, warm sunshine, and freshly fallen snow.
I am looking forward to a fun exciting year in Computer as we introduce new projects and technology. I look forward to seeing all of our returning students and welcoming the new students that will be joining us this year. It will truly be an exciting year of learning at Saint Susanna.
