The library currently houses 17,361 books, along with 24 Nooks, several Playaways, and 10 Acer notebooks for student use.
St. Susanna uses Renaissance Learning’s Accelerated Reader program throughout the school. Accelerated Reader is a program that helps monitor children’s independent reading practice and comprehension. There are over 153,000 AR reading comprehension quizzes available. All books are cataloged with AR information and have a sticker on the spine to indicate that an AR quiz exists. If students get 100% on a quiz, they enter their name into the “Goal Bowl” and will win a new book if their name is pulled.
In addition, we track words read by students throughout the year. At the end of the year, there is a school-wide challenge. This challenge has been met each year, and has been rewarded by things like a priest serving the kids in the lunch line or our principal kissing a pig. We also have a “Millionaire Reader” bulletin board where students who have read over one million words are recognized.
We have had over 16,800 circulations in the past year – our kids read a lot of books!! The library also has summer hours to encourage reading throughout the year.
The St. Susanna School Library is a thriving, dynamic, integral part of St. Susanna School.
There is never a dull moment in the library! Stop by for a visit and read a book!
Lastly we have a few year-round residents of the library: Moe, the chinchilla, is a very popular member of our student body. We also have three red-eared slider turtles as well as two fire-belly toads.
Have you ever wondered, “Do we have that book in the St. Susanna Library?” You can look and see! Go to https://stsus.follettdestiny.com
There you can do a library search and look at Destiny Quest (a more kid-friendly version of the search screen). Please note, book levels shown on this site do not necessarily correspond to AR book levels. I encourage you to click around in this site and see all your library has to offer!
