Dear Parents,

Catholic Schools Week 2018 was great!  I know the kids had fun with the dress up days and special activities.  Did you catch the video on Facebook?  If not, access HERE. Congratulations to our middle school kids and their “Mean Machine” volleyball team who, for the first time in over 15 years, defeated the teacher team.  What I admire about that effort is the team that emerged during the game; the spirit and perseverance they showed was impressive.

Catholic schools focus on teaching students that all creation comes from God and that it is through Him that we do all things.  He gives us gifts, which we encourage students to let shine.  This month of February, we focus on Habit #6, Synergize, which is valuing the strengths of others and learning to work together. This fits in with our value of Love because we are respectful of the gifts God has given to each of us. By loving one another, we encourage each other to develop the gifts from God.  It causes us to be humble, to admit when we need help and to allow another’s light to shine.  By working together, we can accomplish more!

We held our first State of the School Forum on Thursday, Feb. 1.  Members of school commission, school staff, and parents attended to hear about improvement efforts at St. Susanna School.  As good as ANY school is, there is ALWAYS room for improvement!  Access the information and Presentation HERE.

My Girl Dance was a hit on Saturday night!  Thank you to Rita Mitchell for organizing and to all volunteers who helped make it a success! You let your lights shine!

Vision/Hearing Screening:  On ThursdayFebruary 8 and February 15, 2018, the Hendricks County Public Health nurses will be conducting vision and hearing screenings for Saint Susanna students.

  • Vision screenings will be conducted for students in the third, fifth and eighth grades.
  • Hearing screenings will be conducted for students in the first, fourth and seventh grades.

If a vision or hearing problem is detected in your child(ren), you will be notified and asked to take the student(s) for a complete professional examination.

We have an author visiting St. Susanna on Wednesday, Feb 2!  Kamilla Benko is a former student of mine who has worked in children’s publishing for 10 years (yes, I do feel old!).  Her first published novel Unicorn Quest is available for purchase in my office.  It received excellent reviews (read a review HERE), and has been compared toNarnia series and A Wrinkle in Time. Kamilla will be here as part of her book tour to conduct a writing workshop with our 3rd – 8th graders. She’ll also sign copies of the books people purchase. I’m very excited about having her visit us!
