Dear Parents,

We just completed our first week of school, and it was really exciting, hectic, and great!  We welcomed our preschool and preK kiddos, and they have begun settling in.  Back to School Night gave teachers the opportunity to discuss their plans for the year with parents.  We introduced “The Leader in Me” to parents – click here for more information.  Lots of exciting opportunities at St. Susanna School!

Leader in Me:  We are focusing on Habit 1 this week, which is being Proactive.  Students can work on choosing their attitudes and responses, which is why we have tied this habit in with Joy.  Joy comes when we appreciate God’s kingdom.  If one starts the day in a bad mood and looks for negativity, he/she will only focus on those things.  But if you decide to look at things from a positive perspective, you can see the possibilities instead of the roadblocks.  Leaders focus on Solutions; Followers focus on Problems.  Ask your child how he/she can be more proactive in thought and deed.

Save the Date:  Through some generous donations, we are able to host a high-energy, Catholic faith-based program called “Hard as Nails Ministry” on Wednesday, September 27. The goal of this event is stressing the importance of each individual in God’s world, acknowledging that God gave each person gifts to share. All of our children in kindergarten through 8th grade will be divided into smaller grade-level groups to experience our faith either through a book reading for primary children or an interactive program for older kids.  We invite you all to a family bonding event that evening – Wednesday, September 27 – at 6:30pm.Click here for a preview.

We have established a schedule for EDM after school care that includes a snack, homework time, and physical activity.  This ensures that our kids have a safe and healthy environment.  To provide proper supervision, kids will be signed into EDM beginning at 3:30 pm so they can begin snack and get started on homework. Remember that school dismisses at 3:20pm, and we ask that you arrive in carpool by 3:15pm so cars are not moving while students are present.

Reminder: Please do not exit through the back gate when children are on the playground!  They are not watching for cars and could run out.  EDM staff will set up cones to block that drive when they have children outside, but please be aware.

Don’t forget to turn in your signed papers and volunteer forms!  They were due back this past Friday, but we will still accept them. Family Dress Down passes will come home TODAY for those who turned in their Volunteer forms by last Friday.  The Dress Down pass may be used this Wednesday, August 23.

School Pictures will be taken September 6 and 7.  Exact schedule will be sent out soon.  Order forms will go home this week, so please look for them in backpacks!

The Annual Jamboree and chili cook-off is coming September 30!  We are having an organizational meeting on Wednesday, August 23 at 5:30 pm.  Found out how you can help make this event a success!

September 14 is our Accreditation Visit.  A team of Catholic School principals and teachers will visit our school to look at our improvement efforts and give us feedback.
