The Institute for Quality Education (IQE) operates a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) for St. Susanna School. The funds for these scholarships are raised through private donation. Individuals or businesses that donate to the SGO receive tax credits equal to fifty-percent (50%) of the amount donated.
What is a Tax Credit Scholarship Program?
Indiana’s Tax Credit Scholarship program was created in 2009 as a way to give families who meet income guidelines an opportunity to send their child to a participating private school And in May 2011, under Indiana law HEA 1003, the tax credit scholarship program was expanded and may now be a pathway for families to enter the State of Indiana Choice Scholarship (voucher) Program.
Through the generosity of Hoosiers, private donations are given as scholarships so students may attend a private school that may not have been an option to them otherwise. These families must meet eligibility requirements and then they can apply to the Certified Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO’s) to receive a scholarship for their child to attend the K-12 private school of their choice.
Both corporate and individual donors are eligible to provide charitable donations to these SGOs in order to receive a 50% state tax credit, all while providing educational choices to families and opportunities to Hoosier students. The total program cap is $7.5 million dollars; this could mean up to $15 million in potential scholarships statewide.
The Institute for Quality Education is one of five approved scholarship granting organizations (SGOs) in Indiana. Since the beginning of this program, SGOs have awarded over $10 million dollars in scholarships for more than 11,000 Hoosier students in partnership with 295 private schools through the state.
