Hi, my name is Stephen Coyne. I'm extremely happy and grateful to join the wonderful staff of teachers at Saint Susanna this summer as a middle school mathematics teacher. For 24 years, I've been teaching various courses of middle and high school mathematics at The Heights School, which is a private, Catholic, all-boys school in Potomac, MD, offering grades 3-12, from which I also graduated. In addition, I've served as one of the high school college counselors and as a coach for all levels of baseball, including 7th-grade, 8th-grade, junior varsity, varsity, and 6th-grade little league. Before college, I attended Catholic schools for 11 out of 12 years, including years at Saint Augustine, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and The Heights School. For college, I attended Johns Hopkins University and Towson University, earning my B.S. in Mathematics with an Actuarial Science concentration. I was on the Johns Hopkins University varsity baseball team until multiple intramural football knee injuries ended my JHU college baseball career. Later, I passed several Actuarial Exams and eventually received my college counseling education during six summers at The Harvard Summer Institute on College Admissions and at various other national college admissions conferences.
Before teaching, I worked 12 years in private industry including 3 years as an actuarial analyst for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield of MD and U.S.F. & G. Life Insurance, and several years as an HMO Medical Records Department Supervisor.
Outside of work, I enjoy coaching baseball, playing/managing for adult softball leagues, enjoying cover bands especially who play classic rock and 80's music, and spending time with my three children (Emma-16, Christopher-18, and Tony-26) and extended family.
