We are located on US 40 just west of the Dan Jones Road intersection in Plainfield, Indiana. St. Susanna School opened in the fall of 1953, serving 60 students in grades 1-6. We currently have 233 students in preschool through eighth grade. I’m so pleased to introduce you to our program!
We are accredited by the state of Indiana. Our students achieved some of the highest ILEARN scores in Hendricks County in 2021 and 100% of our third grade students passed the IREAD test in the spring of 2021.
Our Preschool/Prekindergarten is focused on the social, emotional, spiritual, and academic growth of 3- and 4-year-old children. Children learn the basic pre-literacy and math skills through play and hands-on activities. We have a full-time teacher and assistant in each of our preschool and prekindergarten classrooms.
Our primary grades continue developing the basic reading, writing, and math skills of our children through hands-on activities, songs, dance, and center activities. Third through fifth grades focus on the application of those skills by encouraging students to challenge themselves to use what they know to complete tasks.
Our middle school program creates learners who are prepared to succeed academically in any high school they choose. About 50 percent of our middle school students continue in Catholic education. They learn to be empathetic and gentle with younger students in our Preschool – 8th grade building.
Living our faith out loud is paramount to our mission as a Catholic school. Our students organize and participate in monthly service opportunities, whether it’s collecting food to restock a local food pantry, making blankets and capes for children in hospitals, or collecting money or items for victims of natural disasters. All of our children learn prayers and hymns and attend weekly mass as a whole school, participating as readers, gift-bearers, servers, and members of the choir. Our school days begin with gospel reflection before prayers and end with a prayer. Faith is ingrained in every part of our school day!
Our technology initiative has provided Smart boards in all classrooms, tablets for primary classrooms, and Chromebooks for all students in grades 2 through 8. Our students use computers in the library to take quizzes on Accelerated Reader, which challenges students to become Reading “Millionaires”.
I invite you to visit our school. Watch children as they work together to complete a coding activity in STEM or complete a math puzzle in a center activity. Join our preschoolers as they sing and dance to the sounds of the alphabet. Tap your foot to our school band playing a tune, or pray with us in weekly mass. You will feel the faith, values, and excellence of St. Susanna School the moment you walk through our doors!
